Spring might not be a good time to visit Vancouver. The temperature is not warm enough for many outdoor activities, like kayaking, swimming, ourdoor concerts and festivals. But those were not what I wanted to do this time. Visiting musium, aquarium and art gallery were not in my agenda either. All I wanted to do was to see the cherry blossoms. I had a date with cherry blossoms.
I alway has fond feeling for cherry blossoms. Whenever I see cherry blossom, it reminds me of my old school and brings back the memories of my college life.
In my Alma Mater in China, except some cherry blossom trees scattered in different spots, there are two roads which were lined with cherry blossom trees. One is on the east side of the library and fountain pool, the other one is on the west side symmetrically.
Every year, in the end of March or begining of April, cherry blossom trees started to bloom, signifying the sign of spring and adding pops of pink to the scene. The branches of two rows of cherry blossom tree crossed together on the top, creating a pink canopy overhead and making a gorgeous tunnel of blossoms. When the wind blew and the flower petals gently floatted in the air, looking like snowflakes. People came over to to experience the magnificence of the blooms.
In Toronto area, we have to go to specific place to see cherry blossoms. The last time I went to High park to cherry blossom was more than ten years ago. And when we were there, perfect time had passed. Many flowers had falled on the grounds.
In Vancouver, there were cherry blossoms everywhere, on the streets, in the parks, residential neighborhood and conmercial area. We didn't have to look for cherry blossom. Cherry blossoms welcomed us wherever we went.
