PANDORA'S BOX
...
Pandora- First woman on earth; the Greeks' reason why there’s hate, envy, ect. in the world.
...
Zeus- King of Gods
...
Hephaestus- God of fire and blacksmithing
...
Narrator- Person telling the story
...
Aphrodite- Goddess of Love Epimetheus- Pandora’s Husband
...
Prometheus- Creator of humans ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Narrator- In this myth, Zeus was very angry with Prometheus for tricking him. He was also angry with the humans since they thought they could be as powerful as the gods. Ah, here’s Zeus now.
...
Zeus- (mumbling to himself) Grrr… Blast that Prometheus. Defying me over and over again. Ah well, he’s been dealt with already, now how should I punish the humans.
...
Narrator- Maybe you could…?
...
Zeus- Quiet! I’m trying to think. Ah (snaps his fingers) I’ve got it. Hephaestus!
...
Hephaestus runs in.
...
Hephaestus: Yes, father?
...
Zeus- I need you to make me a woman.
...
Hephaestus- A woman, sir?
...
Zeus- Yes, a woman. More beautiful then Aphrodite, but not enough to make jealous.
...
Hephaestus- Yes sir, I’ll get right to it.
...
As Hephaestus leaves Zeus smiles devilishly.
...
Zeus- Now… this will show those humans the gods will not to be trifled with.
...
Narrator- Ingenious, sir. This plan-
...
Zeus- Quiet!
...
Once Hephaestus finished making the woman he presented her to the other gods and goddesses.
...
Hephaestus- (proudly) This is Pandora!
...
Aphrodite- (while putting jewels on Pandora) Oh, so you gave her a name already?
...
Zeus- (trying to get through the crowd of gods and goddesses) Coming through! Ah, Hephaestus, she looks wonderful.
...
Hephaestus: (beaming) Thank you, sir.
...
Aphrodite: (whispering to another goddess) You know, if Zeus didn’t need Pandora, I would strike her out of Mt. Olympics now for looking as good as me.
...
Zeus- Now, Pandora…
...
Silence.
...
Zeus- Errr… Does she talk?
...
Hephaestus: Right! The voice box. Sorry, I forgot about that. (Runs and gets voice box. Puts it in.) Ah, there we go.
...
Zeus- Errr… Okay, Now... Pandora?
...
Pandora- Yes sir?
...
Zeus- Well, since pretty much everybody else here gave you presents, I presume I should too.
...
Pandora- Thank you.
...
Zeus- No problem. (Hands her a box.)
...
Pandora- Sir? What is this?
...
Zeus- Just a box, but you must not open it.
...
Pandora- Why not?
...
Zeus- Just don’t.
...
Pandora- But…
...
Zeus- Quiet!
...
Narrator- The next day, when Pandora was sent down to earth, she was quickly accepted into the world. Due to her beauty, she found a husband quickly. His name was Epimetheus. Now one day, when Epimetheus was out of the house, she was lying down staring longingly at the box. Thankfully, Epimetheus came in before she could open it.
...
Epimetheus- What do you think you’re doing!
...
Pandora- (startled) I-I was j-just-
...
Epimetheus- Don’t you remember Zeus’ warning?
...
Pandora- … no…
...
Epimetheus- Well, you can’t open the box!
...
Pandora- (batting her eyelashes) Don’t you love me?
...
Epimetheus- Errr… yes?
...
Pandora- Then let me open the box.
...
Epimetheus- I can’t!
...
Pandora- Then leave me alone to cry. (puts her head in her hands and starts imitating small sobs)
...
Epimetheus- Errr… okay….
...
Epimetheus walks out.
...
Pandora- Finally! He’s gone!
...
Narrator- When she opened the box all the evil spirits such as hate, envy, cheating, lying, stealing, persecuting, condemning, murder, (looks at long list and moans) errr… etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera….
...
Back on Mt. Olympus.
...
Zeus- Finally, all the evils have been freed into the world, and the humans will suffer for their insolence.
...
Narrator- But there was still one thing left in the box. And that... was Hope-
...
Zeus- QUIET, YOU INSOLENT HUMAN!
