A Verse by Jiang Jie
(Listening to the Falling Rain)
Teenaged, I joyed the song-house with drapes aglow
By red candles dimly lit while harking the rain.
Middle aged, on a vast river the clouds hung low,
I harked the rain in a passenger boat again,
A lost wild goose cried in th’ west wind in vain.
Now I’m harking the rain under the temple’s eave,
No black lock of mine could remain.
Numb for good for what I mote joy or grieve,
So let the rain drop on the steps till th’ new day’s eve.
