美国新闻最近公布2014年的大学和文理学院的排名，普林斯顿重列榜首，哈佛第二，耶鲁今年仍是长期的老三。今年斯坦福首次在录取率上击败哈佛列第一，但这并没有反应在她的排名上，斯坦福今年与芝加哥大学并列第五，仅比去年的第六名提高了一位。看来美国新闻本科排名重HYP轻斯坦福的传统没有改变，而它的研究生院排名则给斯坦福相应的补偿，因为美国新闻去年出人意料地将斯坦福医学院排第二，首次超过霍普金斯医学院。
另外，美国新闻今年也评选出本科生教学质量的排名，达特茅斯列第一，普林斯顿和耶鲁的表现也不错，州立的伯克利加大和安娜堡密西根大学也榜上有名，但是哈佛则连前13名都不是。

國際高等教育及人力資源研究機構Quacquarelli Symonds（QS）公布全球大學最新排名，香港大學下跌三名至全球排名第26位，是自2010年QS獨立研究公布排名榜後，首次失去「亞洲一哥」地位，新加坡國立大學(NUS)則躍升至亞洲首位。全球最佳學府續由美國麻省理工學院蟬聯榜首，美國哈佛大學晉升至全球第二位，去年排名第二的英國劍橋大學，則跌一級至排名第三。
QS全球大學排名是由多位著名學者組成的國際諮詢委員會，按高等院校的科研、教學、就業及國際化進行比較，同時訪問全球6萬2000多名學術人員及2萬7000多名雇主後得出結果。美國麻省理工學院蟬聯榜首再次成為今年全球最佳學府，美國哈佛大學則上升一名至全球第二名。
