Walk in the woods
I walked in the woods
Surrounded by tall pine trees
Trees I so wanted to be near when I lived somewhere else
Now they were right here
Standing right next to me
Waiting for me to touch them
To whisper to them
I did not do either
I just kept walking
All of a sudden
I thought about those tall palm trees
They were just as tall if not taller
They grew only in the south
In high humidity and extreme heat
They did not like snow or winter that much
They would die
They grew near oceans and beaches
At least this was where I always saw them
I wanted to live near them sometimes
But I probably would miss the seasons here
The golden fall with all the red and yellow maple leaves
People call them foliage, beautiful and magical
The silvery winter with the clear ice and white snow
I do not know what people call them, pure and romantic
I walked on and on
Out of the wood
Onto a little bridge over a little stream
I saw a couple ducks in the water
They looked like a couple, so close and intimate
I looked at them
They looked at me
I knew that they were happy
They were probably wondering whether I was, too
I smiled at them
I wanted to let them know
I was
I chose to walk alone in the wood
But I could be with somebody
Maybe a wonderful lady if I chose to
They seemed to be happy for me and swam along
As they moved up the stream
They turned their heads in unison every now and then
to check whether I was still there
Yes
I was there
I did not move until they disappeared in the distance
