We often have some discussion about the society with the kids at dinner time, which is about the only time available to do so.
I started up today to ask them what special day it is. They didn't got that.
I said, this is the 30th anniversary of th Tiananmen Incident, or whatever you call it.
They said, yes, we learned about from the world history.
I gave them a little summary about the whole event. Then I said, this was our revolution, your mom and dad's. I was doing fund raising here, and your mom was helping with the logistics under the Hero's Memorial. This was such an important event, if it went to a differetn direction, China would be a very different China, and the world would be a different world.
You should feel lucky to be born here. In China, such an important event was simply erased from the history. There people wounded or had their sons or daughters killed, every year around such date they would be rounded up by the police to some secluded place so that they couldn't voice their anger.
The Communist Party is doing a stupid thing. By opressing any organized opposition, it prevents the opposition from growing into a mature force. However, they can not be in power forever. When the CCP falls, the country will be in chaos too big for the world to bear, because there is no organized opposition to replace it. You look at Taiwan, when the old Jiang died, he passed power to his son, who decided to allow opposition groups to operate legally. Eventually the opposition party defeated the old regime by peaceful election. However, I don't see that happening in China, eventhough I don't want to see a bloody transition.
That will be your revolution to watch.
They nodded and rush to finish off their meal.
