Chapter 3
When I got home, I put my bag down and took out my flute and music book. I put the book on my stand and sat straight and tall. Then I blew gently into the flute and started practising. When it was time for the other instruments to play, I would just hum out the tune. Finally, an hour passed. I was so tired that I almost tried to put my case in my flute instead of my flute in my case. After that, I stuffed it under my bunk bed and flopped down on it. Eww! I felt something wet on my neck. I was sweating. I sighed and went to take a shower.
When I came out of the shower, I put on a green T-shirt (Ally and my favourite colour), white shorts and a red and white vest. Then I flopped down on my bed and stretched out. I felt sweaty again. Then I realized that my fan was off. I lazily went to turn it on. When I lay on my bed one more time, I felt the air turning around on my face. Ahh. It felt so cool. I was daydreaming about the concert when I heard the phone ring. I got up and picked up the phone.
“Hello? Monica Kites, special agent speaking…” I said. Being a special agent, we all had to say that when we answer the phone. “Hello, Monica? Hey, it’s Ally here.” “OH! Hey Al!” What did my best friend have to call me after school for?
“Hi. I need to talk to you.”
“Uh-huh.”
“You know the concert 2 weeks away?”
“Uh-huh, yeah.”
“Well it’s cancelled.” “WWHAT?!” I screamed into the phone. “Ouch! I can hear you!” Ally cried. “Sorry, but I’m so disappointed. I practised really hard for it.” “I know. And it’s sa-aad, right?” “Ally!” “OK! But it really is sad, you know?” “Yeah.” “But…” I drummed my fingers on my desk. “Yeah…but what?”
“But I have good news,” Ally said slowly. It was as if I can see her grin appear. “What? Hurry up and tell me!” “The good news is that, we will be going to a competition instead!” “Wa-hoo! When is it?” “Next week!” “Wow!” By then I was so happy that I screamed into the phone again. “Ow-ouch! Ouch…ow, ow! Mon-ee!” “Sorr-ee!” “Monee!” This time Ally said it very quickly. “Sorry!” I said back very quickly. “Mon-eeeeee!” “Sorr…” I was about to talk back when I realized Ally had hung up. I did not realize what a mistake I have made. Ally and I have been friends for a very long time!
I put the phone down and started crying. I went to the washroom to wash my face. Then I went outside and took out my blue bike. I rode down 2 blocks behind the school to our (special agents) workshop. Even though I had washed my face, it still felt like I had been crying. Looking at my watch, I parked my bike on a bike rack and took my green backpack. Looking at it made me squeeze out a few tears since Ally had the same one.
I opened the doors to “Special Agent Trivia Workshop”. It was really busy today (a Monday) and a lot of people were there. I went inside the elevator and pressed the button labelled 5. Finally I got to the 5th floor. I took a deep breath, walked down the hall and stopped in front of my office. I took out my keys from my bag, opened the door, and went in.
I sat down at my large-sized desk and took out my laptop, my notebook, my favourite pen, my folders and 2 pencils. I sharpened my pencils and stuffed my green backpack under my desk. Then I turned on my laptop and went to a website Ally and I created, www.twyf.sa. TWYF stands for “talk with your friends”. I typed in my username and password and was soon logged on.
I decided to go into my favourite chat room, “suprstrs” and see if any of my friends was online. I clicked on the chat room and “loading…” appeared on the screen. Then it gave a whole list of people who were online and in that chat room right now. I read them off. “Tankboy, xxccv123, dancpryncess, love~
to see you online, um in my office
I almost screamed.
