polymath

Recently i picked up a word , polymath,  a person of encyclopedic learning, who gains knowlege in variety of unrelated subjects/disciplines ,  below interesting talk reminded me  that when we were in school and college learning  different subjects , we were all  aspiring polymath(s), why would this be any different after working in a job/career  as specialist though ? Specialists are narrow focused , for example if someone is  a foot doctor, he is  a foot doctor for life, i suspect many  job related dissatisfaction or even suffering/burnout can be related to the narrow focus nature of most modern jobs, which can be unnatural from human nature perspective, i would think most people crave varieties in their work and career life,  polymath/scholars have been the ideals in my opinion , and it is a lifelong pursuit , if impossible in a job setting, but it can certainly fits into our hobbies to compliment a society-imposed linear career path, life would be more rewarding,  interesting, fullfiled and complete, as most are natural polymath.

I remember reading the book 'utopia' before, a proposed work schedule is 4 days a week, 5th day should be left for other type of learning /practice which can be unrelated to the profession one is already in, hope such idea can be promoted not in a few elite companies but for all working people.

hobbies type, 1) leisure:  games , sports , sightseeing , social gathering. 2) productive : workout/fitness, learning new subjects, podcasts 3) creative : art , writing, music composition ,reading, crafts , problem-solving

Leisure is fun, creative type are stimulating and engaging, productive ones are certainly inspring.
