Yesterday was the Valentine's Day. Olivia brought home a card she made for me and Dad. I asked how her Valentine's Day went, she said good but then she said: "I probably should not tell you this, but I am going to tell you." 

"What?" we asked. 

"A boy asked me out" she answered with a stare at our faces.

"What?! What do you mean 'asking you out'?" We were shocked as she just turned 12 even though she mentioned before that a couple of the girls she knew were dating. 

"Is he from your grade?" I asked. 

"Yes, we have two classes together." she answered.

"So he asked you out to do what?" Dad and I just had no clue what the boy's idea of "out" was.

"Well, you know, just go skiing together in the Spring Mountains." Olivia explained.

"Going skiing? Who is going to take you there?" We were confused.

"You guys are," She said. "Just like those high school students who date in the mall during the weekends, their parents drop them off."

"I am not going to just drop you guys off and let you guys skiing. I don't think you guys are old enough to be left alone yet." I said. This whole thing was just so inconceivable to me.

"Okay," Olivia said," I just want to know if it is a 'yes' or 'no'." 

"NO!" both me and Dad said simultaneously.  

Then Dad said: "Olivia, remember I told you are not dating boys until you are 25?"  Whenever Olivia talks about her friends dating, Dad would say so which cracks me up.

"Okay, this is not true, I made it up. I just want to see whether you guys have changed your mind on when I can date." Olivia confessed.

Well, I sensed something iffy here and I was not convinced she actually made this up just to test us. Somehow I felt like it really happened.

The boy she mentioned was Nathan but I knew she had a big crush on Riley, a tall handsome boy who "is good at everything". She told us about him before.

"Why did you use the name Nathan instead of Riley?" I was curious.

"Well, if I said it was Riley, you guys wouldn't believe me as it would be too good to be true." She explained.

Wow, she actually had a strategy in place. For some reason, I am feeling a little unsettling about this. Shall I be worrying about it?
