After school on the Friday before Mother's Day weekend, Evan hid something behind his back and told me he had a surprise for me. It was a Mother's Day gift bag he made which contained a self-framed (with colorful foam) picture of him on the first day of Kindergarten at school, a Mother's Day card he made with a blue flower on the cover and in the pistil of the flower was a green Hershey's kisses. There was also the filling in the blanks he did titled My Mother started with a red rose on top of the paper.
Evan's "My Mother"
My mom is xx years old (this time he got my age right and it was only last year that he thought I was 17J)
My mother likes to watch Chinese movies.
My mother's favorite food is noodles.
My mother looks best when she goes to work (I never thought about this but interesting he would think that wayJ)
My mom's favorite thing to do with me is eat dinner.
I love my mother!
At the dinner table on Mother's Day, Olivia gave me a gift bag too. First it was a card with a poem from her and Evan (as shown above). Daddy told me a story behind this card. In the car coming back from the store, Olivia told Daddy that she had written a poem for me that rhymed very well and it read:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
You are my mom
And now we are through!
(Haha…I recognized what she originally wrote on the card after Daddy told me and could not help but burst into laughter)
Daddy asked: "Olivia, are you sure that's what you want to say? That is not a nice thing to say to your mom." After Daddy explained to her, Olivia said: "Oh, that's not what I meant. But it rhymed very well though." Then she changed the sentence to: "And the point is we love you mom!"J
Also in the gift bag was Olivia's "Top 10 Reasons Why I Love My Mother" which really moved me and also made me feel I need to do a better job to deserve some of the things she said about me.
I love my mom because she always been there for me.
I love my mom because when I need a hand on school work, she is there to help.
I love my mom because no matter what I do she still loves me (this one especially moves me as sometimes she would say that she does not think I love her when I try to discipline her. I am glad she realizes that even though I made her upset during those times I still love her unconditionally)
I love my mom because she made me who I am today (surprised a 9 year old would say something so matureJ).
I love my mom because she cooks for me almost everyday.
I love my mom because she is from
I love my mom because when I am at Karate she roots for me.
I love my mom because she let me have a pet hamster.
I love my mom because she is my mom.
Happy Mother's Day Mom! J
Finally, it was a Mother's Day sound card from everyone else in the family. It reads "You Kick Ass as a mom, even though very few moms put it that way." And when I opened it, I heard Olivia's very cheerful and enthusiastic voice "Hi, mom! This is Oliva, Evan and Daddy speaking! We love you, happy Mother's Day! You totally rock!" Then it was the
"Hey now you're a rock star" song. Haha, that was such a special gift and I loved it! J
