As sister and brother, Olivia and Evan compete with each other for almost everything. The rule of thumb is “what he or she has, I have to have; what I can’t have, he or she can not have either”.
They compete from wanting the same toy or book to fighting for my attention; from one can not have one cracker more than the other to one can not watch his or her show two times in a row; from one can not have more kisses, hugs or “I love you” than the other to…ah…one can not be sicker than the other.
Daddy took today off to take care of Olivia and Evan since both of them are sick. First thing after I got home, I put my hand on Olivia’s forehead (couldn’t trust what daddy told me on the phoneJ) and said: “Mm, not bad.” Then I did the same thing for Evan.
“Wow, Evan is little hot.” I said.
“Does that mean Evan is sicker than me?” Olivia asked.
“Yeah, I think he is having a fever.” I answered.
“Oh! Evan is running the perfect fever and I am not! Now I have to go to school tomorrow and he does not. But I am sick too. I threw up at lunch time.” Olivia complained.
“Okay Olivia, if that is the case (which daddy confirmed), you are sick too and you do not have to school either” I declared.
BTW, since both me and daddy has taken one and a half day off this week and someone has to stay home tomorrow to take care of them, by default, it is mommy’s turn again.
