I guess we chinese are all using wechat. Wechat has lots of features I don’t quite familiar with. One feature I just figured out is the “top stories” category. If you give the story a thumbs up after the reading, your wechat friends will notice the story through the “top story” category.
I have this very good friend in China who is like a sister to me. But ever since I found out this “top story” feature, I realize most the stories she gives thumbs up are against my basic values. The most recently story she gives thumbs up was “拜登黄袍加身,公知卷土重来?” The writer is belittling those so-called public scholars who admire western values such as freedom of speech, transparency of the government are bullshit. I feel a little bit uneasy about her preference.
For the first time I feel we are growing apart and becoming strangers in some ways. Anyway, my thoughts may be too harsh on her. Overall we are living in a different society for a quite long time. It’s an old Chinese saying: Seeking common ground while reserving differences (求同存异).
Have you ever encountered the same feeling? How do you digest it? Anyway I am not sure if my writing is making sense to you. If you see any mistakes, please let me know. Thank you for reading. Until next time.
