No 10 has been the official home of the Prime Minister since 1735 when Sir Robert Walpole first took residence. Since then it has been home to over 50 Prime Ministers.
It is a building that fulfils many roles. It is the very heart of Government and has been for over a century; it is the reception venue for foreign dignitaries and the meeting place of the Cabinet; it is the workplace for the many staff that support the Prime Minister and it is home for the Prime Minister and his family.
