Honestly that was mesmerising. I watched the Russian gals and they were incredible but this group and choreography grabbed me more. They're all incredible athletes and artists.
Honestly, I gravitated more towards the People’s Republic of China as well! Before they even entered the water, I was already amazed! The amount of strength that these women have, to perform beautifully intricate routines IN WATER, is quite remarkable! They have my respect!
I don't know anything about synchronized swimming, but I've seen a lot of it, and this was by far my favorite. Like, ever. So full of surprises. So fun to watch.
Such a powerful performance. And the routines together with the Chinese traditional pipa and zheng music really make me homesick as well as proud at the same time!
Lol most people can’t hold their breath for more than a minute and these athletes/ artists do that while performing an action packed synchronized masterpiece.
I always watch artistic swimming as some kind of extension of rythmic gymnastics, but this is the first performance that actually made me full of tears. The music, the synchronization, the explosion... wow, just wow
I think this is one of the most underrated show of athletic strength in the summer Olympics...and they do it all without being able to discuss and talk to each other! Simply amazing athletes.
You know, I wouldn't want to judge this competition. Chinese and Russian teams both gave truly phenomenal performances. It's a tough call for me as to which was better.
40% of score is “artistic” which is how judges can favor others who do less or make mistakes. This routine is incredible- yet not artistic enough for gold.Yes, I saw the ROC winners routine.
I got my eyes wet when watching this. It is so artistic and apparently the ladies have devoted all to this performance. Well done, China artistic swimming team!
This is one of those things that needn’t be done, but thank the gods it is! Lovely! Astounding! Wonderful! So beautiful! Could it be more impressive?! No. Bravo to the skies!
Also.. thank you NBC editors for not destroying this by chopping it into multiple 5 seconds clips like you’ve done for most of the athletic relays and many sprints.
@Marcus Maddox There is no Jesus in the world, you pathetic knucklehead. Capitalism is eating your flesh and drinking your blood and you hate communists? Guess you have never read a single chapter of "Das Kapital" by Karl Marx. Read some book. Cheer not for the killer but the savior of the world. Communism is the only way for people to live free and equal.
@Leo Z - yeah, just don’t look into the literal 100 million dead over the past century. Capitalism is evil, says the guy typing on an invention created by the very system you abhor. Grow up, one day you’ll have to fend for yourself, and it ain’t gonna be pretty…
Their routine blew me away and they hadn't even entered the pool yet. Then they got in the pool and ratcheted it up about ten levels. They are amazing, beautiful and they should make everyone in China extremely proud. Well done and thank you so much.
This has to be the most difficult Olympic category, at least in other sports you don’t have to hold your breath minutes on end while performing complex move sets.
OMG, that was an incredible performance I had ever seen. Well deserved Gold medal Chinese team. Looking forward to see your team perform more in the future :)
Whew! That looked so hard what the artistic swimmers were doing. I used to swim a lot as a girl. I don't think I could hold myself vertical upside down like they did. Their routine was thrilling!
I liked China's routine better than Russia's. I'm a pretty good swimmer and I can only imagine how disorienting it must be to do all those moves under and in the water!! They must have practiced thousands of hours to be able to do what they do.
Wow! This routine is very original and creative. As much as I love the Russian team, China’s arm and hand choreography looks more gracefully executed and more artistic. It’s just there’s something bout the Russian energy that really made them champions. Congrats China! You’re always a powerful team in artistic swimming.
Show this to someone who is unaware of the result and/or who hasn't seen much Olympic games, pause it a bit short and proceed to tell them, "and they came in second."The height and level of competition at these games is just unreal.
Not only do you need to hold your breath, but you need conditioning, execution, remembering the choreography, staying a float, balancing and having to generate enough force to explode out of the water without a base??? This is probably the most difficult category in the Olympics!
I really have no idea what I'm watching but it's amazing how they can hold their breath under water and still move in unison. Amazing performance by the China.
I love the fierce look on these ladies' faces during their routine. The English-accented commentator seems to relish this program; she kept saying how difficult + intricate it is.
anybody start tear up bc can you imagine the exhausting days and nights where they practiced this?!?! can't believe they won silver, i can only imagine how insane the routine that won gold!!!
Yah I have to say this Has to be the Most Difficult Event..I Mean You not only have to stay In Synce but While Holding Your Breath and Being Underwater while doing it...Incredible Movements. Hard to Believe they Only took the Silver ????????
So many athletes in the olympics make everything look so easy like while watching gymnastics I bet everyone has thought at least one point "I bet I could almost do that" but while watching this I have no doubt that I could not do this at all
When I watch this, I cannot even imagine the effort required to achieve such perfection for all teams! The commentators gave a slight understanding of the disciplines and training required and it goes to show you how these people train as hard as Cristiano Ronaldo. Amazing performances by all the teams!
Wow! Just WOW! Can you imagine the amount of practice time it took to master this routine?!? Simply beautiful! If they won silver I now need to see the gold routine!
Watched the Russian routine before this one and I was very impressed by their routine, China’s routine, however, got more “wows” and “aaahhs” out of me. Both simple perfection though.
Bravo! Both ROC and China had the most difficult and complex moves but they made it seem so easy and eclectic. It's an over the top performance for sure.
I am just an average joe, but this was perfection to me. I don't know what the russians did in their routine, but this was a gold medal performance, bar none. I am so impressed and proud of them. Go team china!!!
@s710 Agree. The choreography here was more refreshing + clever; the ROC's contained many moves, I have seen before. Also, the ROC faltered on their last element.
I cannot imagine how well you have to know both the music and your teammates in order to be able to execute moves that sophisticated while only being above water to hear the music half of the time
