What a great movie? Why can't they make movies like this anymore? Rather than special effects, CGI, this depended on plot and quality acting. (although acting styles have changed considerably over the years) Why on earth would anyone want to watch Survival, or My Snottiest Bride or whatever reality trash we are inundated with? Turn off the TV and turn on the computer.?
A cracking film, all the more remarkable because it’s based on a true story. Jack Hawkins gives a great performance. Sadly missed. RIP Jack thank you for the pleasure your acting talent brought my generation over many films.?
Can't imagine what it was like to be an agent in an occupied country, living with a permanent knot in your stomach. I had one just watching this excellent film. Thanks for the upload.?
Yet ANOTHER Sterling Performance by the justifiably "venerated" Jack Hawkins.... The added casting of Felix Aylmer, Alexander Knox and cameo by Michael Caine was a particular delight, too!! I loved Hawkins' portrayal as the neurotic Reverend in ZULU (1964), whereas this engaging "2-headed" film successfully elaborated on the Reich circumstances that led up the to their defeat in the Arden / Baston, hence largely the end of the war, which was well-characterized in the goooood 1965 film, too, "The Battle Of The Bulge". THX Choco!!?
In the beginning of the movie when I saw Jack Hawkins playing a Nazi German officer, I immediately thought....Nah, this is ridiculous, this is Jack Hawkins..Mr. British himself...trying to play a German officer...??? But I soon saw what was going on...thank goodness..LOL..!! After watching this movie, I looked up Colonel A.P. Scotland ( the Jack Hawkins character ), and read about his life. There is a slight difference between this movie and the real life of this man, but I won't say anything here...look it up yourself. Still, I always enjoy watching any movie with Jack Hawkins.?
As a child I was captivated by Jack Hawkins's distinctive voice. Later I thought how cruel it was that he should have his larynx removed due to throat cancer.?
The real footage and the staged events are almost indestinguishable...what a time capsule of the most dramatic event of the 20th Century..the fall of Berlin 1945!?
