Assateague island is a wild life conservatory with great beach. Fiddler crabs craw on marsh ground. Herons, seagulls, ducks, wild horses…can be seen near or far. Some visitors swim or sun bath at the beach, some catch blue crabs or fish, some observe wild animals, some bike on trails, and some walk in woods. At the top of Assateague Lighthouse, a person can see the landscape of whole island. Visitors reside on Chincoteague island. Beside hotels, Maddox Camping Ground is big and well equipped. So instead of eating in restaurants, some campers buy fresh seafood and vegetables from roadside stands and cook themselves. Love the shrimps, they are so fresh that have hint of sweetness. These two islands belong to Virginia, located at the south tip of big peninsula and the same east shoreline of Ocean City, which belongs to Maryland. 6945 meters long Bay Bridge crosses Chesapeake Bay and links this peninsula to the mainland of Maryland. It takes 3 and half hours to drive from Baltimore to Chincoteague island. Paying 5 dollar parking fee, visitors can drive into Assateague island. A lot of people ride scooters or bikes, or just walk into it instead.
