Breathing Meditation:settle yourself into your comfortable position, close your eyes, focus your attention on your breathing.Don't expect anything extraordinary to happen, just enjoy the stillness.Every few seconds your attention will be distracted by thoughts or sounds. When these distractions arise, gently let them go then turn your attention once more to your breathing.Rhythm of breath.Counting breaths: Inhale, exhale, one inhale, exhale, two,and so on. Count up to ten. Allowing yourself to become a little mesmerized, then begin another cycle. Every time you find your mind drifting off in another direction, focus on your breathing and start again at 'one'. For the first few weeks, you will find it difficult to get beyond three to four before our mind begins to wander. That's okay, be patient and just keep on counting. Many people make an effort to be peaceful. Don't make any effort to be anything. Just breathe as you find it and be as you are. Your breathing will become shallower and slower as you become more relaxed. Put aside every plan, every project, and be in the moment. The world will still be there when you finish our meditation.Don't be overly solemn or feel that you are taking part in some special ritual. Let go of the idea that you are meditating. Just breathe.
