　　洪七公原为富贵人家的公子，但他生性豪放喜接交朋友，尤其是和丐帮中人混的很熟。辗转间与丐帮净衣派长老之女程雪芯相恋，并且卷入丐帮内净衣、污衣两 派的斗争中，最后学会降龙十八掌和打狗棒法接任丐帮帮主。
　　段智兴随母在灵鹫宫中长大，成年后奉母命前往大理找生父段王爷，但受到王爷之弟从中作梗，母为救父亲死去。段智兴一直不原谅父亲只到后来被父亲以死相 救，父子间冰释前嫌，段智兴登上王位。
　　洪七公与段智兴很早就接识并成为好友，虽然被人挑拨后来为《武穆遗书》而反目，最后仍能携手战胜金国灵智上人。
　　洪七公生命中的两个女人生前都恨不能让洪七公早点死。段王爷身边的女子则都为他或死或是遭受不幸。他们年轻时的恩怨情仇同样感人……
