The show "Apprentice" gave a lot to think about today. It was a show Donald Trump started a few years back to use a competition-type process to select senior managers in his organization. This time, it appears somewhat different from other times. This group of people are more like the real staff we deal everyday. There are very talented poeple, but quite bad people's skills. There are people always being critical about others' ideas or opinions. There are people who show can-do attitude all the time and contribute whole-heartedly either being a team member or a project manager. There are people kinda useless exept being amiable. etc etc.
This round, a very vocal and talented woman was fired because she did not come up with a good concept for her project. Her team member, happened to be the one who is always negative about others' ideas, luckily survived. They did not work well together. team member was in a way imcompetent and incooperative. The project manager had only a concept that she believed in, but was not able to execute it to even her own satisfaction.
I start thinking who I am in real life. I believe I am a good contributer and a team player. But do other people see me that way? Am I being critical and negative about others too much and too often to the point that I become a nuance in the team? I hope not. But a reality check may yield results I don't want to see.
So the question I have is how to voice one's concerns without being viewed as critical or negative. I know one should come up with a solution when pointing out an issue. But to me even if I have a solution, nobody would listen. How should I change the dynamics here?
