Another Sunny Day

Another Sunny Day It’s another sunny day. The sun shined through the leaves, everything glittered along the path they took everyday to and from lunch. This had been their most looked-forward moments of a day since a year ago. They knew they both would walk down the road some time around that time of the day. It's the routine for everyone at the school. She usually saw him as soon as he appeared in the streams of moving people during the lunchtime rush hour. His figure would tower over any crowd. His eyes behind the black-frame glasses always looked for her on stepping out of the office building. At that moment, the whole world would turn into silent background. The only thing that mattered was the approaching face. A face with a smug smile as the corners of the mouth tilted up. She flushed, and her eyes sparkled. Her heart thumped, but she could not hear it, or felt it at all. The only thing left in her consciousness was the gaze and the smile they were to exchange when passing by each other. No word was necessary. The glimpse and the smile were enough, brighter than the glaring sunshine. His lectures were always enjoyable. Standing on the raised podium, he looked even taller than usual. He had the habit of putting his weight on one leg and let the other bend a little bit. One of his hands touched the podium with four standing fingers. He usually looked away from the audience when he talked, as if he was thinking out loud. The square cheeks and the strong jaw weas raised slightly. The youthful and muscular body made a beautiful silhouette in the light coming through the windows. The same body had demonstrated the beauty of bursting strength when dashing on the tracks. Here in the classroom, it’s another kind of beauty. The one you would see in a statue like “The Thinker”. He was like an actor on the podium, presenting an intellect of himself. He seldom talked from notes. His opinions revealed to her that there were ways to look at the past, the people and the world other than the orthodox clichés in the textbooks. She found thoughts and ideas could be so fascinating. Now, her eyes were open to see an ocean of knowledge waiting to be explored. That year, he was a new graduate from a university, and she was a 16-year-old.
