College admission officers are like toll booth operators, and college applicants are like vehicles traveling through toll ways. Like most vehicles, many applicants have prepaid toll pass and pass through the express lanes without even realizing that there is a toll both.
Ocassionally, a fance R.V. would stop at the toll booth, and the operator would direct the person one way or another.
From time to time, an old clunker would stop at the booth, the operator may direct the person to a shortcut, but most of the time, the operator would point to a sign that reads "minimum speed 50", and the driver have to turn around.
The road trip is long and rough. In the end, most will arrive at their destinations safely, some are glad that they took a detour, some are still bitter about their journey.
