It just occurred to me while I was reading one of posts about what is considered a deficiency or defect. About 18 years ago, my wife became pregnant at an age that was considered high risk. For whatever reason her doctor strongly suggested we see a specialist for advice. We researched ourselves by reading academic papers first. There was not a consensus though there were some evidence of risks. We made an appointment to see a specialist and the specialist did some test, though I had long forgotten what it was about. The specialist's advice was that "it is up to us to decide if we want to carry on." Our friends and relatives are leaning towards to "not to carry on".
We decided to carry on without much debate, we decided to accept any consequence that may come in our way. The best decision we ever made together.
