The thermus aquaticus bacteria were first discovered in Yellowstone National Park. Heat-stable enzyme within the bacteria help organisms live in extremely hot temperatures. The amazing colors that ring the scalding hot springs and geothermal pools are thanks to chemicals the bacteria emit to protect them from the heat.
