Mother Indicted in MySpace Hoax SuicideA 49-year-old Missouri mother who used MySpace and a false persona to torment a 13-year-old girl who ultimately committed suicide has been indicted on federal charges. The woman allegedly created a fake MySpace account, pretended to be a 16-year-old boy, feigned romantic interest a young girl who lived nearby, and then spurned her. The girl, Megan Meier, hung herself shortly after receiving a series of hurtful messages from her "love interest." Prosecutors, using a novel interpretation of hacking laws, indicted the mother on one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to gather information that would later be used to harass another MySpace user.
