According to a recent public statement released by Washington District Office Director Phyllis A. Howard, certain pending I-485 cases have been transferred from the Washington District Office to the California Service Center (CSC) for adjudication, and more will be transferred in the future. The purpose of this case relocation is to further reduce the backlog. This transfer applies only to I-485 cases and not naturalization cases.
Phase I
Cases that were already transferred as of October 14, 2005 , include some of the following:
* I-485 cases that were continued at the time of the interview.
Cases that were not transferred include, but are not limited to, the following:
* I-485 cases that are pending a name check or Fingerprint Response;
* I-485 cases that are awaiting only a visa number before approval may be given; and
* I-485 cases that are awaiting the submission of documents, as the response time has not yet elapsed.
If your I-485 case was continued at the time of the interview and you would like to know whether it was sent to the CSC, you can make an InfoPass appointment online at www.infopass.uscis.gov. At the time of your InfoPass appointment, the Information Officer will be able to inform you whether your case remains in Washington or has been relocated to the CSC. Presently, there is no timetable available for the projected processing time at the CSC.
Phase II
Cases that will be transferred sometime in the future include:
· Employment-based I-485 applications that were transferred to the Washington District for adjudication;
· Employment-based I-485 applications that have not yet been scheduled for an initial or rescheduling of an interview; and
· Employment-based I-485 applications that were filed with the service center prior to the 2005 calendar year.
Although these files have not yet been sent, they have been boxed and are ready to be shipped. Therefore, if your pending I-485 application falls into one of these three categories, please do not attempt to make an InfoPass appointment at this time, as your file is boxed and currently unavailable. We will be posting updates on Phase II of the relocation as more information becomes available.
