Another reason that tennis is not a popular sport is the college scholarship issues. Almost all division I and II colleges have huge scholarships for football and basketball players. But almost next to zero for men's tennis, women's college programs are a little better but still nothing comparing to other sports.

Just give you an example, the complete buget for the tennis program at Ruger's university in NJ, a division I program is about $800,000 for a year. This includes salaries for coaches and staff and players' scholarships. For its football program, the total buget is over 130 millions a year!!! One football team has about 130 players, this means cost for 1 single football player is more than the entire tennis team!!!

And you know what is more crazy? Ruger's university has just announced this year that they are cutting the men's tennis team because THEY CAN'T AFFORT IT ANYMORE!

And this is a division I program! That's what the US tennis are facing. It is a huge problem. Personally, I think the USTA should help out with their huge profits generated from the US Open and other events. But they are so short sighted and only care for making their money.

Just my opinions of course.

Take care
