Who can afford to buy expensive homes? Real Estate Journal set out to answer that question recently… meanwhile we wondered where all these homes are. So we queried our database for the most expensive ZIP codes in the U.S. What we found was not totally unexpected. In fact, you might have expected it!
The two states with the most Million Dollar ZIP codes (defined as a ZIP code with a Zindex over $1,000,000) are California and New York (surprise, surprise). Beverly Hills and the Big Apple might account for some of that. Connecticut may surprise some by taking the third spot. Below is a pie chart that breaks down the number of Million Dollar ZIP codes in each state.
California, with 83 ZIP codes having a Zindex over $1,000,000, has the highest concentration in the San Francisco Bay area. Here’s a screenshot of which ZIPs made the cut — predictably, Silicon Valley has its share but Marin County and the East Bay keep up.
Meanwhile, Zillow’s home state of Washington only has one Million Dollar ZIP code- 98039. This also happens to be where Bill Gates lives.
I can’t talk on this subject and not mention California’s 90210 (current Zindex $2.07 Million), one of the more famous ZIP codes in the United States since the hit TV Series in the 1990’s.
And the most expensive ZIP code in the country? 92067, which resides in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. The median price of a home (Zindex)? As of today, $2.5 Million!
